Fourway brings ‘Chatty Bus’ to Huddersfield to bring the community together

4 months ago Thu 15th Jan 2026

Fourway is bringing the popular Chatty Bus initiative to Huddersfield, encouraging people to connect, chat and brighten each other’s day by coming together as a community.

On Monday, 19th January 2026, Fourway’s friendly team will be heading to St George’s Square, Huddersfield, from 11am to 2pm, acting as Chatty Ambassadors and inviting people to stop for a natter.

Our contribution to the community extends far beyond transportation. Bus journeys can be the only moment of social interaction some people have and we want to help our communities build connections. The event is open to anyone and everyone, offering a welcoming space to talk and meet new people.

During the winter months, social connection can be especially important for people who may be feeling isolated. Fourway’s Chatty Bus aims to create a positive, welcoming environment that brings the community together and reminds us how much a simple conversation can mean.

What is Chatty Bus?

Chatty Bus is a community driven initiative designed to reduce loneliness and social isolation by encouraging friendly conversations on public transport and in public spaces.

Research shows that one in three people admit to using the bus for social interaction, while some individuals go an entire week without speaking to anyone close to them. Chatty Bus helps break down those barriers, encouraging people to say hello, share a conversation and feel less alone.

By bringing Chatty Bus to Huddersfield, Fourway hopes to highlight the importance of everyday connections and the power of small moments of kindness.

The initiative is supported by Huddersfield Mission, a charity that has been based in Huddersfield town centre for over 100 years. Huddersfield Mission supports those struggling with multiple and complex needs such as homelessness, mental health, addiction and more. They will be in attendance from 11am-1pm.

Stuart Fillingham, Commercial Director at East Yorkshire Buses said:
“Small, everyday interactions can have a powerful impact on how people feel. Chatty Bus builds on that idea by encouraging friendly conversations and helping to reduce social isolation. We’re proud to support initiatives like this that bring people together and strengthen our local communities.”

Phil Smith, General Manager at Fourway said:
“Go Ahead West Yorkshire bus routes serve numerous communities across Kirklees, and we are pleased that we can deliver this opportunity to bring people together during the winter months which can often be a challenging time for many.”

Paul Bridges, CEO at Huddersfield Mission said:
“Huddersfield Mission is pleased to be part of the Chatty Bus coming to Huddersfield. Through our work at Huddersfield Mission, we know how important it is that we all have the opportunity to talk with someone in a safe place. Indeed, we often say that our support starts with a brew and a chat. Whether it is on the Chatty Bus or here at Huddersfield Mission, we encourage everyone to take the opportunity to have a chat."

Since 2019, Go-Ahead's 'Chatty Bus' initiative has been uniting passengers and colleagues across the UK, fostering social interaction and offering a supportive network for those seeking companionship.

Anyone passing by is encouraged to stop, have a chat and learn more about how they can stay connected or get involved.
