East Yorkshire Buses, National Trust and DalesBus Team Up to Improve Access to Fountains Abbey
Today
East Yorkshire Buses are pleased to be working in partnership with the National Trust and DalesBus to provide an enhanced bus service to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal this summer.
From 20 July until 5 September, North Riding services 82, 83 and 84 will be extended from Ripon to Fountains Abbey, providing a bus up to every hour during the daytime, Monday to Saturday.
The extension creates convenient direct links from York, Boroughbridge and Ripon, allowing visitors to enjoy a single-journey trip to one of Yorkshire's most spectacular attractions without the need to change buses.
This improvement has been made possible thanks to funding from the National Trust, and we would like to extend our sincere thanks for their support in helping more people access this world-famous heritage site by public transport.
At the same time, revised timetables will be introduced on North Riding services 82, 83 and 84 from 20 July to help improve punctuality and reliability. Additional running time has been built into the schedules to reflect increasing traffic levels and congestion experienced across the route in recent years. These changes will help provide a more reliable service for customers, reduce the impact of delays and improve the overall resilience of the timetable.
Paul Chatwood, on behalf of DalesBus, said:
"It's great to see improved sustainable access to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal being supported by the National Trust throughout the summer school holidays, and we hope that lots of people will make use of it. This new trial service complements the existing Summer Sunday and Bank Holiday DalesBus services to Fountains Abbey, which provide access from Pocklington, York, Ripon, Harrogate, Bradford, Otley, Grassington and Pateley Bridge."
"Full details of all buses to Fountains Abbey are available online at www.dalesbus.org/fountainsabbey."
Stuart Fillingham, Commercial Director at East Yorkshire Buses, said:
"We are delighted to be working alongside the National Trust and DalesBus to improve access to one of Yorkshire's most iconic visitor attractions. The extension of our North Riding services 82, 83 and 84 will make it easier than ever for residents and visitors to travel sustainably to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, with direct links from York, Boroughbridge and Ripon."
"As well as introducing the new extension, we have taken the opportunity to revise our timetables to improve reliability across the network. By building additional running time into the schedules, we are helping to ensure customers can enjoy a more dependable service while exploring some of the finest destinations Yorkshire has to offer."
