Meet Our Engineering Apprentices!

5 months ago Thu 12th Feb 2026

As part of National Apprentice Week, we're celebrating the amazing apprentices who are shaping the future of engineering. Meet Szymon & Dom. two of our passionate engineering apprentices, who share their journey, inspirations and advice for anyone that wants to follow this path.

East Yorkshire is a proud member of the Go-Ahead Group, a company that continues to set the standard for excellence in apprenticeships.

Szymon - Mech-Elec Apprentice

Szymon joined the team in July as a Mech-Elec apprentice, working across both mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines. Since starting, he has embraced the hands-on nature of the role, developing practical skills while gaining valuable real-world experience in a busy engineering environment.

With a long-standing interest in understanding how things work and how they can be improved, Szymon knew early on that engineering was the right path for him. He studied A Level Math's, Engineering and Economics at college, building a strong academic foundation before progressing into his apprenticeship.

He believes the apprenticeship route offers the best of both worlds, the opportunity to earn while learning and to grow alongside experienced professionals. For anyone considering a career in engineering, his advice is simple: take the opportunity and go for it. Outside of work, Szymon enjoys going to the gym, helping him maintain focus and a positive work-life balance

Dom - Mechanical Apprentice

Dom joined the team in July 2025 as a Mechanic, where he carries out MOTs and supports the wider engineering operation.

He has always enjoyed getting hands on and working on vehicles, having spent time helping family and friends with repairs and maintenance.

Dom previously studied car mechanics at college, but he knew he wanted to take his skills further and work on something bigger than just cars.

After coming across the apprenticeship opportunity online, he applied and was delighted to receive the call offering him the role shortly after his interview. Since starting, he has thoroughly enjoyed the experience, valuing both the practical nature of the job and the strong support network around him.

He says the apprenticeship is one of the best decisions he has made, with plenty of guidance available whenever he faces a new challenge. Outside of work, Dom enjoys mountain biking, working on his own car, and motorbiking, hobbies that reflect his passion for mechanics and keep him active in his spare time.
