🚌 Your Journey Starts Here
Running every Sunday and Bank Holiday throughout summer, DalesBus 822 connects Pocklington, York, Boroughbridge, and Ripon with some of Yorkshire’s most iconic and picturesque spots — from the awe-inspiring Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal to the rolling hills of Nidderdale National Landscape and the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
No need to book ahead — simply buy your ticket from the driver and settle in on one of our spacious double-decker buses. Enjoy a relaxing journey with views of Yorkshire’s finest countryside from the top deck.
Explore Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal
Step back in time at Fountains Abbey, one of England’s most remarkable Cistercian ruins, nestled beside a tranquil river. Wander through the 18th-century water gardens, a landscape of graceful statues, whimsical follies, and postcard-worthy views. The National Trust site also features a visitor centre, café, and shop. Don’t miss Studley Royal’s Deer Park (free to enter!) and the hauntingly beautiful St Mary's Church.
Explore Nidderdale National Landscape
From Fountains Abbey, DalesBus 822 winds into Nidderdale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Take a break in Pateley Bridge, where you’ll find welcoming tea rooms, traditional pubs, and independent shops. Visit the Nidderdale Museum to uncover local heritage and stories of Dales life.
Venture into the Yorkshire Dales National Park
Keep going for unforgettable views as the route climbs over Greenhow Moor, passing the dramatic Coldstones Cut sculpture and viewpoint — with refreshments nearby at Toft Gate Barn Café.
The bus then descends into Upper Wharfedale, arriving in the charming village of Grassington. Explore cobbled streets, pop into local boutiques, grab a bite at a cosy pub, or stop by the National Park Centre for walking maps and trail info.
Further Explorations and Connections
Connections are readily available on DalesBus 72 to Skipton and DalesBus 876 to the iconic villages of Kettlewell and Buckden. These areas boast some of Yorkshire's finest walking country, offering scenic trails and stunning vistas. You can also journey to Aysgarth for its famous waterfalls or Hawes to visit Wensleydale Creamery.
