Travelling by bus for vulnerable people

2 weeks ago Mon 15th Nov 2021

Following recent coverage of the incident on Sunday 7 November where a teenage girl was refused entry to one of our buses, I wish to assure the community that this was an isolated incident.

I have met Mr & Mrs Hockney and their daughter and apologised for this, which didn’t reflect our usual practice or policies in respect of vulnerable people. We are also liaising with Reclaim These Streets and are looking forward to their input in how we can improve our procedures at East Yorkshire Buses, including raising awareness among drivers of women’s safety.

We have policies in place to support our vulnerable customers as well as our teams that work in the front line, who are very committed to providing good customer service.

Can I reassure everybody – women in particular – that we are there to take you home safely, and that you can – and you should – flag down a bus if you are in need.
