Vacancy: Trainee National Express Driver

*** During the coronavirus outbreak, we're taking the common-sense step of suspending our recruitment interviews and assessment centres.  Although you're welcome to continue to send us application forms, we won't be able to get back to you to invite you to an assessment centre until things are back to normal.  This means that if you apply, you may not receive a reply for some time.  Please be aware of this when you reply, and don't be disheartened if you don't hear back from us until the coronavirus crisis is over. ***

Our professional drivers provide safe, reliable and efficient passenger journeys for the National Express network across the UK, providing our valued passengers with the best quality travel experience through their friendly, knowledgeable and helpful approach.

We are currently seeking recruits to join our National Express team here at Hull.

Candidates must be prepared to stay overnight at a variety of locations across the UK and the shifts will include regular weekend and bank holiday working.  Candidates must also have high standards of personal appearance and customer service, and be able demonstrate flexibility and commitment.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing the cheerful and friendly face of National Express, greeting passengers courteously and treating everyone with respect and dignity.
  • Driving company vehicles carefully and safely, complying with all legal and regulatory requirements and company procedures.
  • Being a team-player, ensuring that our services operate come rain or shine, day in day out.

What makes a great candidate for this role?

You do not need to hold a PCV licence or have experience of driving buses or coaches for this role as full training will be given. You must possess great customer service skills and be a team player.  A good grasp of basic English and maths is essential as you’ll be dealing with passengers on a daily basis.  You need to look smart and professional, and be willing to work shifts, including staying away from home for 2 or 3 nights per week. You must also have a full UK driving licence, have been driving for at least two years and be a competent driver. A good sense of direction and a cool head is also a must as you will be driving long distances when fully trained.

Why work for us?

We are a long established business and have an excellent reputation in the local area.  We can provide job security and on-going training.  There are no costs for training or uniform (provided you remain with us for a period of two years or more) and we pay you from day one so you can earn while you learn.

How do I apply?

Please fill in our application form - put National Express as your favoured location of employment.
