Scarborough Recruitment Open Day

Saturday 29 January, 8am-5pm, Flamingo Land Stadium, Scarborough Sports Village, Scarborough

Interested in becoming a bus driver?  Come along to our Scarborough recruitment day to find out more, chat to our friendly staff, and try out what it's like to sit in a bus driving seat!

We are currently recruiting for trainee bus drivers and experienced bus drivers, based in Scarborough, to drive our local and tourist buses on the Yorkshire coast.

Come along to our recruitment day at Scarborough's Flamingo Land Stadium to find out more about being a bus driver, with the possibility of applying for jobs on the day. You can ask any questions you may have, see what the training involves, sit in a bus cab and find out whether bus driving is the career for you.

If you want to, you can apply for a job on the day, including filling in an application form, having an informal interview and going on a driving assessment. However, there's no pressure to do this - if you'd prefer to come along just to ask questions and have a chat with us, that's absolutely fine.

There's no need to book in advance, simply drop in at any time from 8am until 5pm.

You don't need to already have a bus licence to become a bus driver, as we provide full training, but you must have a full car driving licence. Please bring your car licence along with you. We also welcome applications from those who already have a PCV licence.

Scarborough Bus Driver Recruitment Open Day Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about the recruitment day, and careers with us:

Do I need to have a bus licence to apply to be a bus driver?

No, you don't, as we give full training, but you must hold a full UK car licence.

Do I need to come along for the whole day/how long will I be there?

No, you don't need to come along for the whole day, you can drop in at any time between 8am and 5pm. How long you're there will depend on how busy we are when you arrive, and how many questions you would like to ask!
If you'd only like to ask a couple of questions and have a chat with our team, you may only be a few minutes. If you'd like to apply for a job on the day, you could be there for a couple of hours, as you'll fill in an application form, have a short, informal interview and do a driving assessment.

Can I apply for a job on the day?

Yes, there will be the opportunity to complete an application form on the day, but you don't have to if you don't wish to - there's no pressure. If you want to apply, we'll ask you to fill in a simple application form, then you'll have a short, informal interview with one of our team, and do a driving assessment. The driving assessment will be in a small vehicle (a van) rather than a bus, and lets us get an idea of your driving skills. If the interview and driving assessment go well, we may be able to make you a provisional job offer there and then!
If you'd rather apply at a later date, that's absolutely fine - you can apply on our website, and if you meet our criteria we'll invite you to one of our assessment centres. You can apply at any time on our website using our bus driver application form.

What will I do on the day?

When you arrive, we'll ask you to tell us some basic information about your driving experience and job history, and then you'll be able to have an informal chat with a member of the East Yorkshire team to ask questions and find out if bus driving would be a good career for you. If you decide to apply for a job, we can help you complete an application form, although you can take one away with you and apply at a later date if you'd prefer. If you do decide to apply on the day, you'll have a short, informal interview, and then a driving assessment in a small vehicle (a van). All our team are friendly and approachable, and the day will be very informal, so please don't be intimidated by thinking it will be like a formal job interview - just come and have a chat with us, we're not too scary!

I already have a PCV licence, should I come to the day?

Yes, people who have an existing PCV licence are welcome to come along on the day to apply for a job or ask questions. Alternatively you could simply apply online for a position on our website using our bus driver application form, giving us details of your bus driving experience on the application form. We'll then be in touch to arrange for you to attend one of our assessment centres.

Do I need to bring anything?

It would be helpful if you could bring your driving licence, as you'll need it if you want to apply for a job on the day. Also, please bring a face covering with you.

Do you only have full time vacancies available?

No, there are a variety of roles available. We can discuss full time, part time, term time and seasonal roles with you.

Who makes a good bus driver?

To become a trainee bus driver, you need a friendly personality, great customer service skills, and a full UK car driving licence. We'll teach you the rest! There's no need for any experience driving buses or large vehicles, as our training programme gives you all the skills you need, including gaining your bus driving licence, learning routes and operating ticket machines. You'll also be paid from day one, so you'll earn while you learn.

I can't attend on the day, can I still apply?

Yes, you can apply at any time on our website using our bus driver application form.  As long as you meet our criteria (e.g. having the appropriate driving licence), we'll be back in touch to arrange an interview and driving assessment at a time that's convenient to you.

Where else can I find more information about being a bus driver?

Watch our video, where some of our drivers tell you about their backgrounds, and how they became a bus driver.
