New fares & fantastic child tickets from September

1 month ago Fri 23rd Aug 2019

Bus company East Yorkshire is set to revamp fares from Sunday 1 September 2019, including brand new child tickets.

Children aged under 16 will benefit from new weekly tickets in the Hull Plus Zone, allowing travel all week for just £9.50, anywhere within Hull, Cottingham, Anlaby, Hessle and Willerby.  These tickets will be available from the driver with cash or contactless, or on the East Yorkshire Buses app, where parents can gift tickets from their own smartphone to make child journeys cashless.

In addition, new Young Adventurer fares mean return journeys will never cost more than £3 for children under 16 travelling during weekends and school holidays.  This new cap will make prices cheaper for families with children travelling for days out, as well as older children travelling with friends, and is available across the whole network, including Hull, York, Bridlington and Scarborough.

Ben Gilligan, Area Director for East Yorkshire, said: “We want to see more families using the bus, and we are committed to making all child journeys excellent value for money.

“The new child tickets offer better prices for children travelling by bus, especially during weekends and school holidays, and we hope this will encourage more children and families to enjoy days out in our area.”

Great value group tickets will remain available, allowing 4 people to travel together all day within Hull, Cottingham, Anlaby, Hessle and Willerby.  From 1 September this Hull Plus Team Ticket will be £7.50 and can be used by any combination of children and adults.

Following rising operational costs, the company will also implement its first general fares increase for nearly 18 months.  The increase is in line with inflation and will affect fares in Hull and the East Riding.  Fares will remain competitive, and East Yorkshire in Hull will continue to offer the cheapest day tickets available in the city.

Commenting on the fares increase, Ben Gilligan said: “After keeping fares across the network the same since early 2018, we have made the difficult decision to raise prices from September following the rising costs associated with operating buses around the region.

“We remain committed to offering a quality service for all our passengers with reliable buses and this increase will help us to do this.”

The new fares will come into place on 1 September, the same day new early morning buses into Hull will begin, providing extra services for shift-workers and commuters travelling into the city from Willerby, Longhill, Hessle, Cottingham, The Avenues and Beverley.

An increase in buses during the day on Sundays will also start, creating more opportunities for people to get into Hull for events, shopping and leisure from the Willerby and Willerby Road areas, and Hessle, Hessle Road and Anlaby Road.
