East Yorkshire bus drivers spread Easter cheer with colourful clothing

1 month ago Wed 15th Apr 2020

Hundreds of bus drivers from local bus company East Yorkshire wore colourful clothes over the Easter weekend in a vibrant show of support for fellow key workers.

Key workers across the country have received praise for doing their bit during the coronavirus pandemic over the past few weeks with the rainbow image appearing in windows of households on every street.

Swapping their uniforms for bright clothing allowed East Yorkshire team members to return the deserved praise they have received from the NHS workers, care workers, retail staff and teachers who they transport every day.

Praise for bus drivers has poured in on social media from those who are relying on buses to make their journeys.  One Facebook user said: “They are doing a great job, well done all of you.”

Another commented: “I’d like to thank you for your support and still keeping buses running.  We’re all in this together!”

The company’s engineering division also took part in the ‘clap for our carers’ and ‘clap for key workers’ initiatives at its Hull depot on Thursday evening.  The team, who work tirelessly to keep buses running, clapped, flashed bus lights and used horns to show appreciation for key workers, including their colleagues out on the road.

Ben Gilligan, East Yorkshire’s Area Director, said: “We were pleased to see so many of our drivers take part in this campaign to spread Easter cheer over the weekend, hopefully putting a smile on the faces of our passengers during a difficult time.

“Our whole team is going above and beyond to keep buses moving for those who need them most and we would like to thank them for their dedication.”

Buses are still running to special coronavirus timetables, catering for key workers and essential travel only, and those making such journeys should check bus times before setting off as times can change to help cater for more people.
